veekogumise
Veekogumise describes the process by which water gathers or accumulates in a particular area or on a surface. The term is used primarily in Estonian environmental science and hydrology, but its meaning corresponds to the general concept of water pooling or water collection. Veekogumise can occur naturally, such as when precipitation gathers in low-lying depressions, in marshes, or along riverbanks. It can also result from human activities, for instance by changes in land use, construction of impermeable surfaces, or the creation of artificial ponds and reservoirs. The main physical mechanisms behind veekogumise include surface runoff, infiltration rates, evapotranspiration differences, and the hydraulic conductivity of soils or substrata.
In many ecosystems, veekogumise plays a crucial ecological role. Temporary pools formed by rain on flat topography
Measures to manage veekogumise include hydrologic modeling to predict water movement, the restoration of natural wetlands
