Vaskularisaatio refers to the process by which blood vessels are formed in the body. This essential biological process is crucial for growth, development, and tissue repair. It involves the intricate development of new blood vessels from pre-existing ones, a phenomenon known as angiogenesis, or through the formation of vascular structures from precursor cells called hemangioblasts.

Angiogenesis is a tightly regulated process that is essential throughout life. During embryonic development, it forms the initial vascular network that supplies nutrients and oxygen to the growing embryo. In adults, angiogenesis plays a vital role in wound healing, allowing for the delivery of inflammatory cells and subsequently the building blocks for tissue regeneration.
