vasallien
Vasallien, or vassalage, is a feudal relationship that developed in medieval Europe between a lord and a vassal. In this system the vassal held land, called a fief, from the lord in return for certain services and personal loyalty. The core element was reciprocity: the lord granted land and protection, while the vassal owed military support, counsel, and other duties, and swore homage and fealty to the lord. The vassal’s tenure was typically contingent on meeting these obligations; failure could result in forfeiture of the land.
The arrangement facilitated the mobilization of knights for a lord’s military needs and helped organize governance
Regionally, vasallien took various forms and persisted in different degrees across Western Europe, evolving alongside changes
