Valintaruuduille, often translated as "checkboxes" in English, are a common graphical user interface (GUI) element used in software applications and web pages. They allow users to select or deselect one or more options from a set of choices. Unlike radio buttons, where only one option can be chosen at a time, checkboxes offer independent selection.

A checkbox typically appears as a small square box. When selected, a checkmark or other visual indicator appears inside the box. Clicking on a selected checkbox again will deselect it, removing the indicator. This binary state, checked or unchecked, is the fundamental functionality of a checkbox.

Checkboxes are frequently used in forms for settings, preferences, and options where multiple selections are permissible. Examples include agreeing to terms and conditions, selecting notification preferences, or choosing multiple items from a list. Their simplicity and intuitive nature make them a ubiquitous component in user interface design, facilitating user interaction and data input across a wide range of digital platforms.
