Vakiosopimukset, literally "standard contracts," are pre‑written agreements that are widely used in Finland for a variety of everyday transactions. They are drafted by expert groups, associations or government bodies to cover common legal and commercial arrangements, such as tenancy agreements, residential apartment leases, employment contracts, insurance policies, sale of goods, mortgage deeds and public procurement forms. The purpose of a vakiosopimus is to provide parties with a ready‑made, legally sound text that reduces drafting costs, ensures consistency with current legislation and safeguards against unfair or ambiguous terms.

The legal status of vakiosopimukset is protected by the Finnish Act on Standard Texts (Vakiotermien laki). The act allows the government to issue a mandatory standard contract for certain regulated transactions, such as leases of residential properties and worker contracts, while encouraging voluntary adoption in other areas. A valid vakiosopimus must be offered to the counterparty prior to signing; refusal to sign the standard text is allowed, but offers must be timely and clearly communicated.
