vahvoista
Vahvoista is the elative plural form of the Finnish adjective vahva, meaning strong or powerful. It is used when the noun it modifies is in the elative case (from or out of) and the noun is plural, forming phrases such as “from the strong ones.” In Finnish, adjectives decline to agree with the nouns they describe, including number and case, so vahvoista appears only in contexts where both the adjective and its noun are in elative plural.
The elative plural vahvoista conveys a sense of source, origin, or movement away from a group described
- Puhuttiin vahvoista väitteistä. (We talked about strong claims.)
- Varsinkin vahvoista ihmisistä voidaan tehdä johtopäätöksiä. (From strong people one can draw conclusions.)
- Tutkimus keskittyy vahvoista väitteistä peräisin olevaan todistusaineistoon. (The study focuses on evidence derived from strong claims.)
Vahva as an adjective has other inflected forms for different cases and numbers (e.g., vahvat, vahvan, vahvojen).
