uywali

Uywali is an Bolivian municipality in the Beni Department of the country. The municipality is situated in the Ibare District, near the Ibare River. It borders to the north with Caquetá, Colombia, and to the south with the provinces of Moxos and Ballivián.

The area is largely a sparsely populated region, with an economy primarily based on agriculture and livestock. The municipality is generally known as a place for grazing and herding cattle. Land clearance and land tenure are major challenges faced by residents of Uywali.

Ibere Irigoyen, a local leader, was instrumental in leading the library movement in the region. In 2007, his efforts culminated in the establishment of a library in Uywali. The new library offers books as well as other educational resources to locals. Local newspapers suggest an influx of children visiting the library, mainly during weekends. Average temperatures are at times hotter than 28 degrees Celsius, but the area sees rainfall throughout the year. The predominantly wet climate leads to lush vegetation allowing an ideal habitat for several fish species found on the Ibare River waters. Typical scared species’ trend shows the Vega fish serves as the food source.
