urogentitaalse
Urogenital is an adjective that pertains to the urinary and genital systems. These two systems are closely linked anatomically and functionally in both males and females, and as a result, disorders affecting one can often impact the other. The urinary system consists of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra, responsible for producing, storing, and eliminating urine. The genital system, also known as the reproductive system, includes the organs involved in reproduction. In males, this includes the testes, epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, prostate gland, and penis. In females, it comprises the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, and vagina. The shared anatomical proximity, particularly the urethra's role in both systems (urination in both sexes, and ejaculation in males), contributes to the frequent overlap in urogenital conditions. Infections, inflammation, and congenital abnormalities can affect both systems simultaneously. For example, sexually transmitted infections can spread from the genital tract to the urinary tract, and vice versa. Similarly, certain cancers or developmental issues can manifest in both urogenital areas. The term urogenital is therefore used to describe conditions, structures, or processes that involve both the urinary and genital tracts.
