Urladdningsmotstånd, sometimes translated as discharge resistor or bleeder resistor, is a resistor used in electrical circuits to safely discharge stored energy. This energy is typically stored in capacitors, which can retain a significant electrical charge even after the main power source is removed.

The primary function of a urladdningsmotstånd is to provide a path for this stored charge to dissipate. When a circuit is powered down, the urladdningsmotstånd is connected across the capacitor. This allows the electrical energy stored in the capacitor to flow through the resistor, converting it into heat and safely dissipating it. Without a urladdningsmotstånd, a capacitor could hold a dangerous charge for an extended period, posing a risk of electric shock to anyone who comes into contact with the circuit.

These resistors are commonly found in power supplies, high-voltage equipment, and any circuit that utilizes capacitors.
