Uåndingen is the Danish word for exhalation, the process of breathing out. It is the final phase of the respiratory cycle, where air is expelled from the lungs. This occurs when the diaphragm, a large dome-shaped muscle at the base of the chest cavity, relaxes and moves upward. Simultaneously, the intercostal muscles, which are located between the ribs, also relax, causing the rib cage to move downward and inward. These actions decrease the volume of the thoracic cavity, which in turn increases the pressure within the lungs, forcing air out.
