uBlock

uBlock is a free, open-source content-filtering extension for web browsers that blocks ads, trackers, and other unwanted content. It is designed to be lightweight and efficient, using filter lists to determine what to block while preserving page functionality and speed.

Features include a dynamic filtering interface that lets users block or allow certain types of requests (scripts, frames, image requests), a cosmetic filtering tool to hide page elements, and an element picker to select elements for removal. It can enforce lists such as EasyList and Easy Privacy, as well as site-specific rules, and supports user-defined custom filters.

Two main variants exist: the original uBlock and uBlock Origin. uBlock Origin, a fork created around 2015 by the developer known as gorhill, is the actively maintained and most widely used version today.

Availability and compatibility: uBlock Origin is available for major browsers including Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. It runs entirely within the browser and loads filter lists locally, minimizing data sent to external servers.

The project is open-source, with its source code and issue trackers hosted publicly on platforms like GitHub, allowing community contributions and transparency.
