Töövõimetuspension, or disability pension in English, is a form of social security benefit provided in Estonia to individuals who have lost a significant portion of their working capacity due to illness or injury. The primary purpose of this pension is to compensate for the loss of income resulting from this reduced ability to work.

Eligibility for töövõimetuspension is determined by the Estonian Social Insurance Board (Sotsiaalkindlustusamet). A crucial component of the assessment is the degree of incapacity for work, which is evaluated by medical experts. This degree is categorized into total incapacity, severe incapacity, moderate incapacity, and mild incapacity. The specific percentage of lost working capacity required for pension entitlement varies depending on the category.

To qualify, an individual must also meet certain insurance requirements, meaning they must have accumulated a minimum period of social contributions prior to applying. The amount of the pension is calculated based on the individual's previous earnings and the determined degree of incapacity for work. The pension is paid out on a monthly basis.

The pension is intended to be a continuous support, but it is subject to periodic re-evaluation by the Social Insurance Board to assess whether the individual's working capacity has changed. Töövõimetuspension aims to ensure a basic standard of living for those unable to fully participate in the labor market due to health reasons.
