Táplálékháló is the Hungarian term for a food web. A food web is a graphical representation of the feeding relationships between different organisms in a particular ecosystem. It illustrates how energy flows through the ecosystem as one organism consumes another. Unlike a simple food chain, which shows a single linear path of energy transfer, a food web is more complex, depicting multiple interconnected food chains. This complexity reflects the reality that most organisms have more than one food source and are prey for multiple predators.

The base of a food web typically consists of producers, which are organisms that create their own food, usually through photosynthesis. Examples include plants, algae, and some bacteria. Following the producers are primary consumers, also known as herbivores, which feed on producers. Secondary consumers are carnivores or omnivores that eat primary consumers. Tertiary consumers are carnivores or omnivores that eat secondary consumers, and so on. Detritivores and decomposers, such as bacteria and fungi, play a crucial role by breaking down dead organic matter from all trophic levels, returning nutrients to the ecosystem for producers to utilize.

The structure of a food web can reveal important information about the stability and health of an ecosystem. A more complex food web with diverse connections is generally considered more resilient to disturbances, as the loss of one species may have less drastic consequences if other organisms can compensate for its role. Studying food webs helps ecologists understand energy transfer, population dynamics, and the overall functioning of natural systems.
