Tuskailuihin is a term that appears in the context of Southern Ocean research, specifically in relation to the circumpolar deep water (CDW) and the Antarctic circumpolar current.

In 1992, a team of scientists discovered a phenomenon in the CDW that was characterized by a significant presence of Devonian, Carboniferous, and Early Permian fossils primarily composed of shark teeth, invertebrates, and ammonites. These ancient organisms were found at depths ranging from approximately 2000 to 5000 meters.

The tuskailuihin deposit is of interest to paleontologists and scientists due to its unique characteristics. The fossils found in the CDW appeared to have originated from an area of shallow, tropical water. This confrontation between ancient and modern aquatic environments lends insight into Earth's geological history and is a significant discovery for scientists.

It is considered one of the most notable deep-sea discoveries related to pre-Cretaceous fossils.
