It is one of the most significant findings in the field of paleontology from the Ishishi Asfalto Formation. The name Turilidestega refers to the specific geological site where the fossils were discovered, Turil Lake.

The Turilidestega specimen is known for its relatively well-preserved condition, retaining many of its original characteristics. Studies of the vertebrae and dentition indicate that Turilidestega was a carnivorous predator.
