Tsementbetoon, commonly known as cement concrete, is a composite material widely used in construction due to its strength, durability, and versatility. It is formed by mixing cement—a fine powder made from heated limestone and clay—with aggregates (such as sand, gravel, or crushed stone), water, and sometimes additives to enhance specific properties. The chemical reaction between cement and water, known as hydration, binds the aggregates together, creating a solid and rigid material.

The primary components of tsementbetoon include Portland cement, which accounts for about 10–15% of the mixture by volume, and aggregates, which make up the remaining 80–85%. Water is added in sufficient quantity to initiate hydration while allowing workability. Additional materials like fly ash, silica fume, or fibers may be incorporated to improve strength, reduce permeability, or enhance resistance to cracking.

Tsementbetoon is valued for its compressive strength, which can range from 20 to 40 megapascals (MPa) in standard applications, though high-performance mixes can exceed 100 MPa. It is commonly used in foundations, walls, floors, pavements, and infrastructure projects. Proper curing—maintaining adequate moisture and temperature during the early stages—is essential to achieve optimal strength and prevent cracking.

While tsementbetoon offers numerous advantages, it also has drawbacks. Its production contributes to carbon emissions due to the energy-intensive manufacturing of cement, and improper mixing or curing can lead to structural weaknesses. Sustainable alternatives, such as recycled aggregates or supplementary cementitious materials, are increasingly being explored to mitigate environmental impacts.
