Transzspiráció is a term used in biology to describe the process by which moisture is carried through plants from roots to small pores on the underside of leaves, where it changes to vapor and is released to the atmosphere. It is essentially evaporation of water from plant leaves. This process plays a crucial role in water movement through the plant and in the exchange of gases between the plant and its environment.

The driving force behind transzspiráció is the difference in water potential between the inside of the leaf and the surrounding atmosphere. Sunlight, temperature, humidity, and wind all influence the rate of transzspiráció. High temperatures, low humidity, and windy conditions generally increase the rate of water loss from the leaves. Conversely, cool temperatures, high humidity, and calm conditions reduce it.

Transzspiráció is not just a passive loss of water; it is a vital physiological process. It helps to cool the plant, preventing it from overheating. It also creates a tension or pull that draws water up from the roots, a process known as the transzpirational pull, which is essential for transporting water and dissolved nutrients throughout the plant. Furthermore, the opening and closing of stomata, the pores through which most transzspiráció occurs, also regulate the uptake of carbon dioxide needed for photosynthesis.
