Translatatsiooni is a biological process that occurs in all living cells. It is the stage of protein biosynthesis following transcription where the genetic information encoded in messenger RNA (mRNA) is translated into a sequence of amino acids, forming a polypeptide chain. This polypeptide chain then folds into a functional protein.

The process of translatatsiooni takes place in the cytoplasm on ribosomes, which are complex molecular machines made of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) and proteins. Ribosomes read the mRNA molecule in codons, which are sequences of three nucleotides. Each codon specifies a particular amino acid or a stop signal. Transfer RNA (tRNA) molecules act as adaptors, carrying specific amino acids to the ribosome and matching them to the corresponding codons on the mRNA through their anticodon sequences.

The initiation of translatatsiooni involves the binding of a ribosome to the mRNA molecule and the recruitment of the first tRNA carrying the initial amino acid, usually methionine.
