Transisyon is a term used to describe the process of changing from one state, condition, or stage to another. It can be physical, temporal, social, or institutional, and often involves intermediate forms or steps. The word is a loanword from transition in English, itself from Latin transitus. In Indonesian and Malay usage the more common form is transisi, but transisyon appears in some texts and regional varieties, both referring to the same concept.

In science, a phase transition is a change between solid, liquid, and gas or between different structural states brought about by variables such as temperature, pressure, or composition. In climate and energy policy, terms like energy transition describe shifting the energy system toward lower-carbon sources. In demography, the demographic transition refers to shifts in birth and death rates as societies develop. In politics and governance, a political transition denotes changes in leadership or constitutional arrangements, often following reform, conflict, or elections. In technology and industry, digital or industrial transitions describe the adoption of new technologies, processes, and business models. The term also appears in culture and social life to describe shifts in norms, language, or identity over time.

Because transitions are usually gradual and multistage, they involve planning, investment, and policy or cultural change. They can be planned or emergent, incremental or rapid, and may encounter resistance or uncertainty.
