Tornityypit refers to the different kinds of tornados that can form. The most common and visually recognized is the funnel cloud, which is a rotating, cone-shaped cloud extending from the base of a cumulonimbus cloud to the ground. When this funnel cloud makes contact with the ground, it is officially classified as a tornado.

Another type is the landspout, which is similar to a tornado but forms from the ground up in the absence of a strong updraft within a supercell thunderstorm. Landspouts are generally weaker and shorter-lived than tornadoes. Waterspouts are essentially tornadoes that form over water. These can be tornadic waterspouts, which are true tornadoes over water, or fair-weather waterspouts, which are similar to landspouts and form in less severe weather conditions.

Dust devils are sometimes mistaken for tornadoes, but they are actually rotating columns of air that form in dry, clear weather conditions and are not associated with thunderstorms. They are much weaker and do not involve cloud formation. The intensity of a tornado is measured using the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which rates them from EF0 (weakest) to EF5 (strongest) based on the damage they cause. Understanding these different types helps in forecasting, safety, and research related to these powerful weather phenomena.
