Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that operates a worldwide network of clubs dedicated to developing communication and leadership skills. Founded in 1924 by Ralph C. Smedley at the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, Toastmasters grew from a single club into an international association.

Local clubs meet regularly, typically weekly or biweekly. Members take on meeting roles such as Toastmaster, speakers, evaluators, and table topics master. The organization is divided into districts and regions, overseen by elected officers and a board.

The current core program is Pathways, an online, multi-level learning experience with tracks for both communication and leadership. Participants complete projects that develop skills in organizing, delivering, and evaluating speeches, as well as taking on leadership responsibilities through club roles and district programs. Prior to Pathways, Toastmasters used a library of printed manuals.

A typical meeting includes prepared speeches, a table topics session (short impromptu talks), and evaluations from a designated evaluator. Feedback focuses on content, delivery, and language.

Toastmasters operates thousands of clubs in many countries, serving hundreds of thousands of members who practice public speaking and leadership in a voluntary, member-driven environment. The organization emphasizes practical skill development, while perceptions of the experience can vary by club and may require a time commitment.
