A tingsrätt is a Swedish district court. It is the primary court of first instance in the Swedish judicial system for criminal and civil cases. Tingsrätter handle a wide range of legal matters, including criminal offenses, family law disputes, property disputes, and contract disagreements.

Each tingsrätt serves a specific geographical district. The judges in a tingsrätt typically consist of a presiding judge who is a professional lawyer and two lay judges, who are citizens appointed for a specific term. In more complex cases, a panel of three professional judges may preside. The proceedings in a tingsrätt are generally open to the public.

Decisions made by a tingsrätt can be appealed to a higher court, known as a Svea hovrätt (Court of Appeal). The tingsrätt plays a crucial role in administering justice at the local level in Sweden, providing accessible legal resolution for individuals and organizations within its jurisdiction. The term "tingsrätt" itself derives from "ting," an old Norse word for a public assembly or court.
