Classification and languages: The family is described as containing ten languages, grouped into three sub-branches: Northern Tien, Central Tien, and Southern Tien. In commonly circulated worldbuilding material, representative languages include Aeron, Bris, Cendra, Dorin, Elyth, Faro, Galan, Heska, Ithran, and Joran. The languages share a core lexical base and grammatical patterns but diverge in phonology and morphology, yielding partial mutual intelligibility among neighboring tongues and limited understanding across branches.

Phonology and writing: Tientalen languages are typically written with a Latin-based script augmented by occasional diacritics. They commonly feature a five-vowel system, with optional vowel length in some branches, and consonant inventories that include stops, fricatives, nasals, and liquids.
