The most common HD resolutions are 720p and 1080p. The "p" in these resolutions stands for progressive scan, meaning each frame is displayed as a complete picture in a single pass. This contrasts with interlaced scanning (denoted by "i"), where odd and even lines of the image are displayed alternately, which can sometimes lead to motion artifacts.

The increased pixel count in HD compared to SD provides a much sharper and more detailed image. For instance, 720p resolution has 1,280 pixels horizontally and 720 pixels vertically, totaling approximately one million pixels. 1080p resolution offers 1,920 pixels horizontally and 1,080 pixels vertically, resulting in over two million pixels. This higher pixel density allows for finer details, clearer text, and a more immersive viewing experience, especially on larger screens.
