Temperatuurbasis is a theoretical framework used in modeling temperature-dependent phenomena. It refers to a chosen basis set of temperature-related functions that allows any temperature-dependent quantity to be represented as a weighted sum of basis functions.

Formally, select a set of basis functions {f1(T), f2(T), ..., fn(T)} defined on the temperature range of interest. A quantity Q(T) is approximated by Q(T) ≈ Σ ai fi(T), where ai are coefficients learned from data. The idea is to express complex temperature dependencies through a compact, interpretable combination of simpler functions.

The term is not a widely standardized concept in any single discipline, but it is employed in discussions of functional representations to emphasize that temperature acts as the variable with respect to which properties are modeled. Its usage helps to compare materials, interpolate measurements, and regularize modeling efforts by constraining the form of temperature dependence.

Applications include materials science, thermophysical property modeling, and climate or sensor data analysis, where temperatuurbasis can simplify comparison between materials, support regression or interpolation, and reduce dimensionality when many temperature-dependent measurements are available. Common choices for the basis include polynomials in T (1, T, T^2, …) and other functions such as exponentials or splines. Coefficients ai are typically obtained by least-squares fitting or regularized regression.
