teceram

Teceram is a verb form in Portuguese. It is the third-person plural preterite (simple past) of the verb tecer, meaning to weave. It is used with the subjects eles, elas, or vocês in the past: eles teceram, elas teceram, vocês teceram. In English, this tense corresponds to “they wove” or, depending on context, “you all wove.” The form teceram specifically marks a completed past action by a plural subject.

The verb tecer comes from Latin texere, via Old Portuguese, and broadly means to weave fibers into fabric or other structures. In the Portuguese preterite, tecer shows a stem change to tec-: eu teci, tu teceste, ele teceu, nós tecemos, vós tecestes, eles teceram.

Teceram can be used literally to describe weaving processes. For example, Eles teceram uma manta de lã. Metaphorically, tecer is also used for planning or constructing something, or developing a narrative or network, as in tecer uma trama or tecer uma rede de alianças, with teceram used when describing actions completed in the past.
