Tasmanisch refers to anything relating to Tasmania, an island state of Australia. Tasmania is located in the Southern Ocean, 240 kilometers south of the mainland and separated from it by Bass Strait. The state comprises the main island of Tasmania and numerous smaller islands, the largest of which is Bruny Island. It is the second-smallest state by land area, after Victoria.
The name "Tasmanisch" is derived from the island's discoverer, Dutch explorer Abel Tasman, who sighted the island
