The attached gingiva is firmly bound to the underlying bone and tooth surface, providing stability and resistance to mechanical forces. The interdental papillae are the triangular projections of gingival tissue that fill the spaces between adjacent teeth, preventing food impaction.

The primary functions of tannkjøttvev include protecting the underlying bone and tooth roots from the oral environment, preventing the ingress of bacteria and other harmful agents, and providing a stable support system for the teeth.
