Taktimõõdud, in Estonian music theory, refers to time signatures. These are notational symbols indicating the meter of a piece of music. A time signature is typically written as two numbers, one above the other, at the beginning of a musical composition or a section of it. The top number specifies the number of beats in each measure, and the bottom number indicates the note value that represents one beat.

Commonly encountered time signatures include 4/4, also known as common time, where there are four beats per measure, and a quarter note receives one beat. Another frequent example is 3/4, indicating three beats per measure, with a quarter note as the beat unit. Time signatures like 2/4, 2/2 (alla breve), and 6/8 are also prevalent, each defining a distinct rhythmic feel and organizational structure for the music.

The choice of taktimmõõt is fundamental to a composer's ability to convey a particular rhythmic character or pulse. It guides the performer in understanding how to group notes and rests within each measure, contributing significantly to the overall aesthetic and structural coherence of the musical work.
