Tõesuse is a ritual practice described in the ethnographic account of the fictional Archipelago of Valara. It designates both a communal dance performed during the annual harvest festival and the musical framework that accompanies it. In the Valaran tradition, tõesuse serves as a collective act of renewal, memory, and social coordination.

Etymology and terminology: The word is said to combine Valaran roots meaning “circle” and “voice” or “call,” reflecting the circular formation of the dance and the vocal chorus that accompanies it. In Valaran usage, tõesuse refers to the rite as a whole, as well as to its individual movements and musical motifs.

Performance and structure: Participants form a rotating circle and execute a sequence of stepped figures that progress through three phases before a final chorus. The musical texture relies on interlocking percussion, hand claps, and a wind horn ensemble. Movements are codified but allow for personal embellishment within communal norms; spectators may join in by clapping or stepping along the outer ring.

Historical and cultural significance: According to local lore, tõesuse emerged after a period of drought as a social mechanism to restore trust and coordinate agricultural work. Archaeological mentions describe circular ritual spaces associated with the practice.
