sügavushäive is an Estonian term that translates to "depth illusion" or "depth cue" in English, referring to visual cues that help humans perceive depth and distance in a three-dimensional world. These cues are essential for navigating our environment, judging the size of objects, and understanding spatial relationships.

There are two main categories of depth cues: monocular and binocular. Monocular cues can be perceived with just one eye. These include linear perspective, where parallel lines appear to converge in the distance, and relative size, where objects that are farther away appear smaller. Other monocular cues are interposition, where one object blocking another suggests it is closer, and texture gradient, where textures become less detailed and more compressed with distance. Aerial perspective, or atmospheric perspective, is another monocular cue where distant objects appear hazier and bluer due to atmospheric conditions. Motion parallax is also a monocular cue, where objects closer to the viewer appear to move faster than distant objects when the viewer moves.

Binocular cues require the use of both eyes. The most significant binocular cue is binocular disparity, also known as retinal disparity.
