The band was formed in 1987 in Helsinki and consisted of lead vocalist and guitarist Jukka Kuoppamäki, bassist Jukka Gustavson, and drummer Jari Kuoppamäki. The band's name translates to "The Savers" in English, reflecting their financial background and the financial struggles they faced during their early years.

Säästäjien's music is characterized by its blend of rock, pop, and new wave influences, with lyrics often addressing themes of love, heartbreak, and everyday life. Their debut album, "Säästäjien," was released in 1989 and featured hits such as "Kunnes särky löytää minut" and "Kunnes särky löytää minut." The band's second album, "Kunnes särky löytää minut," was released in 1991 and included the popular track "Kunnes särky löytää minut."

Despite their commercial success, Säästäjien disbanded in 1992 due to creative differences and personal issues. The band's legacy continues to influence Finnish rock music, and their songs remain popular among fans. Jukka Kuoppamäki, the lead vocalist and guitarist, went on to have a successful solo career, releasing several albums and collaborating with other artists.
