Säteilymuodot, a Finnish term, translates to "forms of radiation" or "radiation patterns" in English. It refers to the directional distribution of electromagnetic radiation emitted by an antenna or radiated by a source. Understanding säteilymuodot is crucial in various fields, including telecommunications, radio astronomy, and radar systems, as it dictates how effectively a signal can be transmitted or received in different directions.

The most common representation of a säteilymuoto is a polar plot or a 3D radiation pattern. These plots show the relative intensity of the radiated power as a function of angle. Key features of a radiation pattern include the main lobe, which represents the direction of maximum radiation, and side lobes, which are weaker radiations in other directions.
