Székletváltozás refers to any alteration in the normal appearance or consistency of feces. Normal stool is typically well-formed, brown, and passes easily. Changes can manifest in color, shape, frequency, or odor.

Color variations are common. Black, tarry stools can indicate bleeding in the upper gastrointestinal tract, while bright red blood in the stool suggests bleeding lower down. Pale or clay-colored stools may point to bile duct obstruction. Green stools can be due to rapid transit time or the consumption of green foods or supplements.

Changes in consistency are also significant. Diarrhea, characterized by loose, watery stools, can be caused by infections, food intolerances, or certain medications. Constipation, defined as infrequent or difficult-to-pass stools, can result from low fiber intake, dehydration, or lack of physical activity. Stools that are narrow or pencil-shaped might indicate a blockage in the colon.

Increased frequency or a sudden change in bowel habits warrants attention. Likewise, a foul odor that is significantly different from the usual smell of stool can be a symptom of malabsorption or infection.

While occasional minor changes may be harmless and related to diet or temporary illness, persistent or dramatic székletváltozás should be evaluated by a healthcare professional to rule out underlying medical conditions. These changes can be indicative of various gastrointestinal disorders, infections, or other systemic diseases.
