Szubdukcióhoz is a Hungarian term referring to the process of subduction in geology. Subduction occurs at convergent plate boundaries where one tectonic plate moves under another and sinks into the mantle. This phenomenon is a fundamental mechanism driving plate tectonics and is responsible for many of the Earth's most dramatic geological features, including deep ocean trenches, volcanic arcs, and powerful earthquakes.

The denser of the two colliding plates is the one that subducts. Typically, oceanic crust is denser than continental crust, so oceanic plates will subduct beneath continental plates. However, older, colder, and therefore denser oceanic crust can also subduct beneath younger, warmer oceanic crust. As the subducting plate descends into the hotter mantle, it heats up and releases water. This water lowers the melting point of the overlying mantle wedge, causing it to melt and form magma. This magma then rises to the surface, erupting to form volcanoes. The friction and stress generated as the plates grind past each other can also lead to significant seismic activity, often resulting in very deep and powerful earthquakes. The Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the world's oceans, is a prime example of a feature formed by subduction.
