Szemgolyó is the Hungarian word for eyeball. It refers to the spherical structure of the eye responsible for vision. The eyeball is a complex organ containing several parts that work together to detect light and transmit visual information to the brain.

Key components of the szemgolyó include the cornea, a transparent outer layer that refracts light; the iris, the colored part of the eye that controls the size of the pupil; the pupil, the opening in the center of the iris that allows light to enter; the lens, located behind the iris and pupil, which further focuses light onto the retina; and the retina, the light-sensitive tissue lining the back of the eye where photoreceptor cells (rods and cones) convert light into electrical signals. These signals are then sent to the brain via the optic nerve, where they are interpreted as images. The szemgolyó is suspended within the orbit of the skull by muscles that allow for movement. Its shape and internal structures are crucial for clear and focused vision.
