Synperiplanar refers to a specific conformation in organic chemistry. It describes the relative orientation of two substituents around a single bond. In a synperiplanar arrangement, the two substituents are positioned on the same side of the plane defined by the single bond and are in the same plane. This is in contrast to other possible conformations such as antiperiplanar, synclinal (gauche), and anticlininal.

The term is derived from the Latin words "syn" meaning together or same, "peri" meaning near or around, and "planar" meaning flat. When two atoms or groups are synperiplanar, they are approximately 0 degrees dihedral angle apart. This conformation often represents the most sterically hindered arrangement due to the close proximity of the two groups. In many cases, the synperiplanar conformation is energetically unfavorable compared to other rotamers, such as the antiperiplanar conformation where the substituents are on opposite sides.
