Syndikation, or syndication, is the distribution of content, services, or financial obligations across a network of outlets, platforms, or lenders. It encompasses both media distribution and financial arrangements, and is used to expand reach, share risk, or mobilize larger capital than a single actor could provide.

In media, syndication licenses content—such as newspaper features, comic strips, radio or television programs, or online articles—to multiple publishers or stations. The original creator or rights holder retains ownership while granting use rights under defined terms, territories, and timeframes. Syndication enables wider audience access and provides recurring revenue through licensing fees or revenue sharing. Deals may be exclusive or non-exclusive and vary in scope, duration, and control.

In finance, a syndicated loan or credit facility is provided by a group of lenders coordinated by one or more lead arrangers. The purpose is to spread credit risk and increase lending capacity for a borrower, typically a large corporation or project. The lead bank(s) structure the facility, allocate portions to other participants, and collect fees. The borrower deals with the syndicate as a single credit facility, while the risk and funding are shared among the members of the syndicate.

Historically, syndication emerged in print media and evolved through radio and television before expanding with digital platforms. It remains a common mechanism for monetizing content and for financing large-scale projects. Potential drawbacks include reduced control over distribution, revenue fragmentation, and regulatory considerations around licensing, competition, and antitrust rules.
