Sugárzásokat refers to radiation in Hungarian. Radiation is the emission of energy as electromagnetic waves or as moving subatomic particles. It is a fundamental physical process and a ubiquitous phenomenon in the universe. There are two main categories of radiation: ionizing and non-ionizing.

Ionizing radiation has enough energy to remove electrons from atoms and molecules, a process called ionization. This type of radiation includes alpha particles, beta particles, gamma rays, and X-rays. Ionizing radiation can damage living tissue and is used in medical treatments like radiation therapy and diagnostic imaging. However, uncontrolled exposure can be harmful and increase the risk of cancer. Sources of ionizing radiation include radioactive materials, cosmic rays, and medical equipment.

Non-ionizing radiation does not have enough energy to ionize atoms. Examples include radio waves, microwaves, infrared radiation, visible light, and ultraviolet (UV) radiation. While generally considered less harmful than ionizing radiation, high levels of some non-ionizing radiation can still have biological effects. For instance, excessive UV exposure from the sun can cause sunburn and skin cancer. Microwaves are used in cooking and telecommunications, and radio waves are used for broadcasting.

The study and measurement of radiation are important in various fields, including physics, medicine, environmental science, and nuclear engineering. Understanding the properties and effects of different types of radiation is crucial for safety, technological applications, and scientific research.
