Straightrazor is a traditional straight-edged razor used for wet shaving. Also known as a cut-throat razor, it consists of a blade that folds into a handle and is sharpened along a single cutting edge. The blade width typically ranges from 4/8 to 8/8 inch, with common sizes of 5/8 to 6/8. The edge is often hollow-ground to balance sharpness and flexibility; wedge and full-hollow variants also exist depending on the maker.

Historically, straight razors appeared in the 17th century in Europe, with Sheffield, England, and Solingen, Germany, as major centers of production. They remained widely used until the rise of safety razors in the early 20th century, though they persist among enthusiasts and traditional barbers.

Most blades are high-carbon steel, though stainless versions are available. Razors have scales (handles) made of wood, horn, plastic, or metal, connected to the blade by a pivot. The edge is maintained by honing on stones and then stropping on leather to realign micro-serrations.

Maintenance and safety: After use, dry the blade, and apply a light oil to carbon-steel blades to prevent rust. Store with the blade closed. Regular honing refreshes the edge, and stropping keeps it aligned. Shaving requires a light touch and a shallow angle to avoid nicks; guided strokes and taut skin help ensure a smooth cut. Shavettes provide a modern disposable-blade alternative.
