Stilleståndet, meaning "standstill" or "truce" in Swedish, refers to a historical period and phenomenon in Swedish history, particularly during the 17th century. It primarily denotes a state of prolonged armed conflict that, while not fully resolved, also did not involve intense active campaigning. This often meant that borders were contested, skirmishes occurred, and troops remained mobilized, but large-scale offensives or decisive battles were infrequent.

These periods of standstill were often the result of exhaustion from previous wars, the logistical difficulties of maintaining large armies, or strategic stalemates where neither side could gain a decisive advantage. While seemingly inactive, stilleståndet was a period of significant tension and economic strain. Resources were continuously allocated to the military, and the populace often bore the brunt of these ongoing preparations and sporadic raids.
