statsløshed
Statsløshed, also known as statelessness, refers to the condition of an individual or entity that is not recognized as a citizen or national by any sovereign state. This can occur due to various reasons, including birth outside the territory of any state, the loss of citizenship through naturalization in another country, or the revocation of citizenship. Stateless individuals may face significant challenges, such as limited access to basic services, including healthcare, education, and social security, as well as difficulties in traveling and establishing legal identities. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) estimates that there are approximately 11.6 million stateless people worldwide, with the majority residing in Asia and Africa. The Convention Relating to the Status of Stateless Persons, adopted by the United Nations in 1954, aims to protect the rights of stateless individuals and provide a framework for their recognition and integration into society. However, the implementation of this convention varies among countries, and many stateless individuals continue to face discrimination and exclusion.
