Solid wood flooring, often referred to by the Estonian term "solidpuitpõrand," is a type of flooring made from planks of solid timber. Each plank is milled from a single piece of wood, such as oak, maple, pine, or cherry. This contrasts with engineered wood flooring, which has a core of plywood or HDF topped with a veneer of real wood. The thickness of solid wood planks typically ranges from 18mm to 22mm.

The installation of solid wood flooring is usually done by nailing or screwing the planks to a subfloor, typically made of wooden joists or battens. It cannot be installed directly onto concrete slabs unless a wooden subfloor structure is first created. Due to its natural material, solid wood flooring can expand and contract with changes in humidity and temperature, which needs to be considered during installation.

Solid wood flooring offers a timeless aesthetic and can add significant value to a property. It is also durable and can be sanded and refinished multiple times throughout its lifespan, allowing for the repair of scratches and wear, and enabling changes in the floor's appearance if desired. The natural variations in grain, color, and texture of the wood contribute to its unique character. Maintenance typically involves regular sweeping or vacuuming and occasional damp mopping with appropriate wood floor cleaners.
