sokeriyksikön
Sokeriyksikön is a Finnish term used in biochemistry to denote a monosaccharide residue, i.e., a single sugar unit, that constitutes part of a carbohydrate polymer or glycoside. The concept is used especially when describing oligosaccharides and polysaccharides, where individual sugar units serve as repeating or terminal residues. Common sugar units include hexoses such as glucose and galactose, as well as pentoses such as ribose and xylose, along with various modified forms.
In carbohydrate chemistry, sugar units are connected by glycosidic bonds to form disaccharides, oligosaccharides, and polysaccharides.
In Finnish usage, sokeriyksikön is the genitive form of sokeriyksikkö, used to express possession or relation,
