Sisältymisrelaatio, often translated as inclusion relation or subset relation, is a fundamental concept in set theory. It describes the relationship between two sets where one set is entirely contained within another. Specifically, set A is said to be included in set B, denoted as A ⊆ B, if and only if every element of set A is also an element of set B.

The inclusion relation is reflexive, meaning any set is included in itself (A ⊆ A). It is also transitive, meaning if set A is included in set B, and set B is included in set C, then set A is also included in set C (if A ⊆ B and B ⊆ C, then A ⊆ C).

There are two common variations of the inclusion relation. Proper inclusion, denoted as A ⊂ B, means that A is included in B, and A is not equal to B. In other words, there is at least one element in B that is not in A. If A is not included in B, this is denoted as A <0xC2><0x8B><0xC2><0x80> B.
