A service entrance, also known as a service drop or service lateral, is the part of a building's electrical system that connects the utility company's power lines to the building's electrical panel. It is the point where the public electrical grid terminates and enters private property to supply power to the structure.

Typically, the service entrance consists of overhead conductors (service drop) or underground conductors (service lateral) that run from the utility's pole or underground distribution system to the building's weatherhead. The weatherhead is a fitting that protects the conductors from the elements as they enter the building's conduit.
