Seriekredsløb, also known as a series circuit, is an electrical circuit where components are connected end-to-end, forming a single path for electric current to flow. Imagine a string of lights where if one bulb burns out, the entire string goes dark. This is a classic example of a seriekredsløb.

In a seriekredsløb, the electric current is the same through each component. If you measure the current at any point in the circuit, it will have the same value. The total resistance of a seriekredsløb is the sum of the individual resistances of each component. This means that as more components are added in series, the total resistance increases, and the current flowing through the circuit decreases, assuming the voltage source remains constant.

The voltage supplied by the source is divided among the components in the seriekredsløb. The voltage drop across each component depends on its resistance. Larger resistances will experience a larger voltage drop. If any part of the circuit is broken, such as a component failing or a wire becoming disconnected, the entire circuit will stop functioning because the single path for current is interrupted. This characteristic makes seriekredsløb useful for applications where a continuous, uninterrupted current is not critical, or where it is desirable for a single point of failure to disable the entire system. Examples include simple switches, fuses, and some types of heating elements.
