The sekretionsapparat, or secretion apparatus, refers to the biological structures and mechanisms within cells that are responsible for the synthesis, processing, and export of proteins and other molecules intended for secretion or delivery to specific cellular locations. This apparatus is particularly prominent in eukaryotic cells, where it plays a crucial role in maintaining cellular function and communication.

The secretion apparatus primarily consists of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and the Golgi apparatus, along with associated vesicles and transport pathways. The process begins in the rough endoplasmic reticulum, where ribosomes synthesize newly formed proteins. These proteins enter the ER lumen, where they undergo folding and initial modifications, such as glycosylation. From the ER, proteins are packaged into transport vesicles that bud off and travel to the Golgi apparatus.

The Golgi apparatus, composed of stacked cisternae, further processes and sorts the proteins. Enzymes within the Golgi modify proteins through additional glycosylation, phosphorylation, or sulfation, depending on their final destination. After processing, proteins are sorted into vesicles that either fuse with the plasma membrane for secretion or are directed to lysosomes, the cell surface, or other organelles.

The secretion apparatus is essential for various physiological processes, including hormone release, immune responses, and extracellular matrix formation. Dysfunction in this system can lead to cellular disorders, such as metabolic diseases or improper immune signaling.
