segiempat

Segiempat is a general term used in Indonesian to refer to a quadrilateral, a polygon with four edges (sides) and four vertices (corners). This fundamental geometric shape is ubiquitous in both natural and man-made environments. The simplest form of a segiempat is defined by four points in a plane that are not collinear, connected by line segments in a specific order.

The properties of a segiempat can vary greatly depending on the lengths of its sides and the measures of its interior angles. For instance, a segiempat where all sides are equal in length and all interior angles are right angles is known as a persegi (square). A segiempat with opposite sides parallel and equal, and all interior angles right angles, is called a persegi panjang (rectangle). Other common types include jajar genjang (parallelogram), where opposite sides are parallel, and belah ketupat (rhombus), a parallelogram with all sides equal.

The sum of the interior angles of any segiempat, regardless of its specific type, is always 360 degrees. This property is a key characteristic derived from dividing the segiempat into two triangles. Segiempat are fundamental building blocks in geometry and are crucial in fields such as architecture, engineering, and art due to their structural stability and aesthetic appeal.
