Sebgyógyulás is the process by which a wound heals. This complex biological phenomenon involves a series of coordinated cellular and molecular events aimed at repairing damaged tissue. The process can be broadly divided into three overlapping phases: inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling.

The inflammatory phase begins immediately after injury and is characterized by the body's response to the damage. Blood vessels constrict to control bleeding, followed by dilation to allow immune cells and growth factors to reach the site. This phase is marked by redness, swelling, heat, and pain.

The proliferative phase follows, during which new tissue is built to fill the wound. Fibroblasts produce collagen, a structural protein, to create a new extracellular matrix. Granulation tissue, a pink, granular tissue, forms, and new blood vessels (angiogenesis) grow to supply nutrients. Epithelial cells migrate across the wound surface to cover it.

The final phase is remodeling, which can last for months or even years. During this stage, the newly formed tissue matures. Collagen fibers are reorganized and strengthened, leading to a stronger, less vascularized scar. The scar gradually becomes less noticeable over time, though it may never completely disappear. Factors such as wound size, location, infection, and the individual's overall health can significantly influence the rate and quality of sebgyógyulás.
